especially those around the Anzali lagoon. The local plant called Lee is used
in weaving wicker basket, hat, table cloth and so on.
using a traditional device, different kinds of covers with various patterns of
plants can be produced. The most important centres of wicker production is
Rasht, Anzali, Astaneh-ye Ashrafiyeh, Lahijan and Lang
is one of the special arts of Gilan province. Rashti-Duzi is weaving silk
thread to cloth surface using a hook to create wonderful and beautiful
patterns. The main centre of the art is Rasht, the capital city of Gilan
Province, and this is why it is called RashtiDuzi (Woven in Rasht). There are
three styles of Rashti-Duzi that is simple, relief-like and mosaic-shaped
designs. These styles have many various features like Bazoobandi
(Armband-like), Bande Rumi (Roman Armband), BotehJegheh (Paisley Pattern),
GoleMorgh (Flower and Bird), LachakToranj (Circular design on Kerchief). These
features are used in patterns of curtains, carpets, saddle covers, hats, costumes,
traditional backrest, table cloth, counterpane and etc.

customs and thanks to ethnic variety in the province, the styles and designs
are different from east to west of the region. The costumes are produced for
women, men and children and they have different parts. women clothes consist of
two or three kerchief, shirt, jacket, coat, waist shawl, skirt, trouser and
shoes. Also, men clothes include trousers, shirt, jacket, coat, different kinds
of hat and special clothes for shepherds and mountain dwellers.
Lively and happy colours are used for clothes in different parts of Gilan and
they are mainly produced in Qassemabad, Talesh, Rudbar, Masal, Amlash, Rasht
Wood-carving is one of the local and traditional handicrafts in
Gilan, southern side of Caspian Sea. A simple tool is used to carve the wood
and to produce some products such as wooden spoon, ladle, spatula and so on.
The centre of wood-carving is Masal county in Gilan for which the native wood of the region is used.
pottery production is a long established industry in Gilan. The traditional
pottery is mostly produced using finger or roll with simple and primitive
devices. They are produced in some counties such as Rudsar, Talesh, Shaft,
Amlash and Somehsara. Hand and mold are used in new modern pottery and they are
very popular handicrafts in Siahkal and Rezvanshahr.
